Public Listings (Displayed on Directory)

When businesses submit a listing, we collect and publish:

• Business name
• Business type (Producer or Taker)
• Business categories
• Waste streams or resources needed
• Business description
• Public contact email (if provided)
• Public contact phone (if provided)
• Website URL (if provided)

Private Information (Not Published)

We also collect for verification purposes only:

• Contact person's name
• Contact person's email
• Contact person's phone (if provided)

This private information is NEVER displayed publicly. We use it only to verify your listing and may contact you if we have questions.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your information to:

• Display your business in our public directory
• Allow other businesses to contact you about waste/resource opportunities
• Verify the legitimacy of listings
• Communicate with you about your listing
• Improve our service

We do NOT:

• Sell your data to third parties
• Use your data for marketing without permission
• Share your private contact information publicly
• Send spam or unwanted emails

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Firebase (Google Cloud Platform), with industry-standard encryption and access controls. We implement:

• Server-side validation to prevent malicious data
• Encrypted connections (HTTPS)
• Access controls (only authorized admins can view private data)
• Regular security reviews

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of your data
• Correction: Request corrections to your listing
• Deletion: Request removal of your listing at any time
• Object: Object to how we process your data

6. Cookies

Our website uses essential cookies for basic functionality (e.g., keeping you logged into the admin console). We do not currently use tracking or analytics cookies.

If we add analytics in the future, we will update this policy and provide opt-out options.

We use the following third-party services:

• Firebase (Google): Database and authentication
• Vercel: Website hosting

These services have their own privacy policies and security measures. We only share data necessary for these services to function.

8. Data Retention

We retain your listing data for as long as your business is listed in our directory. If you request deletion, we will remove your data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.

Rejected submissions are kept for audit purposes for up to 90 days, then deleted.

9. Children's Privacy

Our service is intended for businesses and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" above.

Continued use of our service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
